Ericka lives with her parents and siblings in a home where everyone works together making fireworks, crafting the small volcano-shaped firecrackers. Though she is shy, she fights every day to move forward, showing grit that impresses her teachers. She helps with chores and with the corn harvest after the season ends. She loves chicken soup, the color purple, and swinging at recess, and she dreams of becoming a businesswoman one day.
